CHALLENGE

The Musicant Group is an interdisciplinary management firm that researches, teaches, and implements placemaking for businesses and communities. The challenge was to create a new, image-based website with improved UX that clearly outlined The Musicant Group's placemaking process.

An added challenge was to create the website in Squarespace so, once complete, it could be handed over to their team and easily maintained. The trick was to use enough code to give the client the tools they asked for while simultaneously retaining Squarespace’s ease of use.

ICON DESIGN

Through speaking with the client, I identified they had a clear process that could be better communicated with the help of coordinated imagery and focused text.

I took their six step, outside in process and created icons (below) accompanied by minimal text to increase visitor engagement and understanding. Then, I took the six icons and combined them into one graphic (above) that demonstrates the process as a whole.

OUTCOME AND TAKEAWAYS

The Musicant Group loved the redesign and expressed excitement over the newfound clarity and simplified navigation. They also appreciated how easy the site was to maintain.

Given the opportunity, I would have liked to work more with the client’s copywriting team to optimize and minimize the text on the project pages.

Ultimately, I am very pleased with the finished product and the user experience that was achieved.
